Rules

Some general rules, which we rigidly obey whenever we bet on the football:

1. Always set clear financial limits and stick to them. Decide on an affordable sum of cash to stake each week and accept that you might lose it.

2. In order to choose the teams that are most likely to win, you should thoroughly research every bet you place.

3. Avoid multiple bets that depend on more than two results. The odds on a treble or accumulator bet may look very tempting, but for obvious reasons you have a far greater chance of winning a single or double bet.

4. Never chase your losses. If you lose, as you invariably will at times, then carefully consider your position before placing your next bet. Also refer back to rule 1 above.

5. Only bet on the final result of matches.

6. Only select teams that are likely to win at home.

7. Make the bet worth your while. Ideally you should place single bets that have odds of between 2.00 - 3.00 (1/1 - 2/1) and double bets that have odds of between 3.00 - 4.00 (2/1 - 3/1). If you keep to these odds you will always stand to at least double your money. If the odds are any longer then you will probably lose; if the odds are any shorter then you will be furious when you inadvertently lose your stake!

And some statistics to bear in mind when placing your bets:

8. No score draws are exceptionally rare, occurring in less than 10% of matches.

9. Most games have a winner.

10. Most goals are scored in the last quarter of the match.

11. Teams playing at home perform better than those away: If two teams are otherwise evenly matched (e.g. similar position in the league table and goal difference) then the home team is more likely to win.
